A delegation of cadet corps on two-week exchange programme

FOURTEEN student cadets and five escorts have been selected to represent Ghana at this year’s International Sea and Air Cadet Exchange Programme in Hong Kong, the United States of America and the United Kingdom.
The two-week programme will give the cadets and escorts the opportunity to put the skills they have learnt in school to work in a practical environment.
Ghana is the only African country among the 21-member countries expected to participate in the programme.
The participants were drawn from various schools in the country on eligibility basis, with support from the government and their parents.
At a brief ceremony in Accra to outdoor the 19-member delegation, a Deputy Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Charles Aheto Tsegah, said the exchange programme was an opportunity for the students to broaden their experience in cadet training.
He said it would also build the key qualities required of the youth to participate in public service activities.
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr Clement Kofi Humado, said the exchange programme would give the participants the opportunity to volunteer their services and help in nation-building.
He said, “The government is doing its best to raise the spirit of volunteerism among the youth, who are the future leaders of this country, by reviving most of the voluntary activities and organisations,” he said.
He mentioned some of those voluntary organisations as the Cadet Corps, the Scout Association, the Red Cross, the Girls’ Guide, among others.
Mr Humado, therefore, called on corporate organisations to support those activities through the ministry and its agencies.
He advised the students and their escorts to serve as ambassadors of the country by presenting a positive image of the country to the outside world.
The delegation include Ms Doris Kuwornu of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation; Ms Monica Evans, the Headmistress of the Twifo Praso Senior High School (SHS); Mrs Elizabeth Ama Asare, the Headmistress of Tema SHS; Ms Doris Ama Bramson, the Headmistress of St Mary’s SHS; Mr Isaac Lawer Odenteh, the Headmaster of Pope John’s SHS, and Lady Queen Naa Asiedu, the Headmistress of West Africa SHS.
Others are Elikem Kuwornu, Achimota School; Nii Andrews Adom, St Peter’s SHS; Nathaniel Safo, Armed Forces SHS; Joseph Ollenu and Adam Abdulai, both of Pope John’s SHS.
The rest are Jennifer Attitsogbui, Sekondi College; Emmanuel Ofori Asiedu, Tema SHS; Salifu Yasser Arafat, Koforidua Senior High and Technical School; Atuimah Stefan Akanfe, Nungua SHS; Maurice Sellassie Kofi Humado, Ghana Telecom University College, and Teddy Atta John Seayor, Ada SHS.
